Originally built in 1883, the Gold Creek Homestead in Ngunnawal is among the ACT's most historically significant rural properties. Following years of deterioration, the project delivered a sensitive restoration, adaptive reuse, and purposeful expansion, transforming the compromised historic asset into a vibrant community facility at the heart of The Grove retirement village.

Works encompassed restoration of the original stone homestead, construction of a new terrace, arts studio and multipurpose spaces, verandah reconstruction, full accessibility upgrades, and complete services integration.

The design was shaped by an independent Community and Stakeholder Panel, placing heritage, connection, and intergenerational engagement at its core. Stone from on-site structures was reused in new walls, existing chimneys were stabilised, and original timber detailing preserved, producing a cohesive facility that reads as a single, unified place. The Homestead now houses a reception area, semi-commercial kitchen, function room, arts studio, and multipurpose spaces creating a social and cultural centrepiece worthy of its historic past.
