Located in the heart of Gungahlin Town Centre, the Gungahlin Community Centre is a purpose-built facility serving one of Canberra's fastest-growing communities.
Built on a greenfield site, the building comprises a double-storey Community Centre and single-storey Youth Hub, connected by a landscaped outdoor area that preserves a significant existing tree on site. Facilities include a community kitchen, café, dance studio, gallery, multipurpose rooms with audio-visual capability, co-working spaces and consulting rooms.
Designed in collaboration with Judd Studio and shaped by extensive community consultation, the buildings reflect the diverse needs of the groups they serve. Architectural highlights include timber wall panelling, polished concrete floors and custom windows that flood interiors with natural light.
A standout feature is the integration of community-led artwork throughout, including a graffiti wall created by local youth artists, kiln-fired courtyard pavers and custom entry soffit artwork, all weaving local identity into the fabric of the building.
