Monarch was engaged to complete the fit-out of the new Zouki Café in Building 5 of Canberra Hospital, transforming a base tenancy into a 24/7 commercial café. The design featured earthy tones that complement the reception area, creating a cohesive and welcoming environment.

One of the key challenges was the intricate design of the stone benchtops and claddings, including several curved components. Due to new stone manufacturing legislation, these elements had to be fabricated offsite, adding complexity to the project. Monarch addressed this by constructing a custom steel spine wall clad in ply, ensuring the curvature was met. This allowed the stone contractor to easily apply the prefabricated stone claddings to the substrates provided.

Monarch’s innovative approach ensured the project met the design and operational requirements while overcoming the complexities introduced by the offsite fabrication process.
