Delivering Electrification Upgrades for ACT Government
24 JUNE 2027
Monarch is delivering significant electrification projects for the ACT Government, supporting its net-zero ambitions by transitioning gas-powered assets in government-owned buildings to modern, efficient electric alternatives.
Woden Police Station Electrification Upgrade
Monarch completed a complex electrification upgrade at Woden Police Station involving the replacement of outdated gas-powered systems with a new, fully integrated mechanical system.
Additional works included in-ground conduits for future EV chargers and structural upgrades to the plantroom façade to meet acoustic standards. The project was completed nearly a month ahead of schedule, with minimal disruption to police operations.
255 Canberra Avenue, Fyshwick
Monarch delivered a comprehensive refurbishment and sustainability upgrade at 255 Canberra Avenue, Fyshwick, as part of the ACT Government's broader infrastructure and energy transition initiatives.
Designed around passive house principles, the project involved the replacement of the existing façade and roof, the decommissioning of the outdated gas plant, and full electrification of the building’s mechanical systems, supported by upgraded electrical supply infrastructure. Two new airlocks were installed to enhance passive energy performance, alongside a 50kW rooftop solar system to offset grid reliance during peak operational hours.
In Progress: 9 Sandford Street, Mitchell Complex
Monarch is currently delivering the 9 Sandford Street Electrification project for Infrastructure Canberra under a Design and Construct contract. Works involve the replacement of an undersized substation supplying Buildings 3, 6, 7 and the vehicle storage shelter, along with associated electrical infrastructure upgrades to support the transition away from gas hot water and heating systems to efficient electric heat pump alternatives.
Having recently completed works at the SES & RFS facility within the same complex, Monarch's team brings first-hand knowledge of the site's existing infrastructure, enabling efficient delivery with minimal disruption.
These projects further reflect Monarch's growing capability in electrification and energy transition works, and our commitment to supporting the ACT Government in building a cleaner, more sustainable Canberra.
