The new office for the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) in Woden has relocated existing services into a space suitable to support young people aged up to 25 and expecting and new parents. The new offices provide a variety of open-plan spaces for staff as well as private offices, meeting rooms, a parents’ room, art room, and sensory room.
This challenging fitout was completed within an 11-week timeframe, requiring extensive coordination and innovative solutions. As the building remained occupied throughout construction, disruptive works were carefully scheduled outside of business hours to minimise disturbances. Structural obstacles, including large, thickened beams in the slabs above and below the office space, were navigated through slab scanning technology and close collaboration with subcontractors, consultants, and the client to propose innovative ideas for services reticulation.
Furthermore, special considerations such as anti-ligature equipment and compliance with disability codes were paramount for this mental-health facility. Coordination with an accessibility consultant ensured that safety and accessibility standards were met without compromise.
