Monarch wins at 2021 Design Matters Awards

Monarch was proud to accept the award for Excellence in the Use of Bricks for the Blue Gum Preschool Extension project at the Design Matters National 2021 Building Design Awards, held through a virtual event on the Thursday 28th October.

Monarch Building Solutions and the Paul Barnett Design Group took a creative, collaborative approach to this unique and challenging design showcasing the ingenuity of bricks.

The project utilised a variety of materials to create different textures and patterns, however the brickwork is an absolute standout feature of this project.

The most notable element is the curved entrance to the oval turret. Curve meets curve in a beautiful display where double bullnose bricks were cut in two complex shapes to fit the transitional curve of the tower and create an oval opening and ‘windows’.

Congratulations to the whole Blue Gum team; the collaborative effort on the formwork between the architect, builder, bricklayers, and carpenters was nothing short of amazing.
