Originally built in 1985, Monarch was engaged to revitalise the ADFA Indoor Sports Centre with a complete refurbishment.

 Upgrades included:

  • refurbishing the 25m swimming pool,

  • full re-design of the existing pool filtration plant room

  • squash courts with new flooring to meet international standards

  • gymnasium upgrade with rope climbing facilities

  • rehabilitation rooms

  • changeroom facilities

  • staff kitchen and office fitout

  • 3000m2 of roof and drainage works

New upgrades to existing infrastructure included mechanical services with boiler and associated pumps replacement works, electrical services, hydraulic services, fire services, communication, and security services.

One of the complexities faced at the beginning of the project was the installation of a full height birdcage scaffold inside the drained swimming pool. This was required in order to demolish the existing ceiling and install the new RippleSound acoustic aluminium ceiling above the pool.

Careful planning and consideration ensured the building remained operational throughout the build process, with minimal disruption to Defence personnel.
